A free workshop with award winning Poet & Performer Maria Ferguson
Ventnor Exchange Spoken Word Collective is exciting to welcome Maria Ferguson as a special guest on 28th January. Maria is a writer and performer from Romford. She has been commissioned by the Royal Academy of Art, Stylist magazine and BBC Radio 1.
Her debut solo show, Fat Girls Don’t Dance, sold-out performances across the country and won the Saboteur Award for Best Spoken Word Show. Her second show, Essex Girl, was shortlisted for Soho Theatre’s Tony Craze Award and won Show of the Week at VAULT Festival 2019. Both are published by Oberon Books.
Her poetry has been anthologised by Bad Betty Press and her debut collection, ‘Alright, Girl?’ (Burning Eye) was Highly Commended in the Forward Prizes.
Ventnor Exchange Poetry Collective is a space for writers and performers who want to create, experiment and develop their craft in a supportive environment, under guidance from established and celebrated poets.
A collaboration with champion of the Island’s poetry scene King Stammers, this is an informal group that meets fortnightly. You don’t need any experience to take part, just an interest in poetry and the spoken word, and an eagerness to explore your creativity with others.
Fortnightly on Thursdays 7.30pm – 9pm, temporarily taking place on Zoom.
