Book Launch with John Goodwin & Marion Carmichael

Ventnor Exchange welcomes two local writers John Goodwin & Marion Carmichael to speak about their work.

John Goodwin will launch his new book The Wager. The Wager is a part fiction novella based on Johns experience teaching at Parkside Secondary Boys School in he 1970s .

‘Dazza like one of the many troublesome kids at Parkside Secondary Boys in the 1970’s was caned viciously by the deputy head teacher. He wouldn’t write or read or cooperate with any teachers. He destroyed the work of his peers. One of the teachers wondered if he had Word Blindness (recognised later as Dyslexia). What followed changed his life and that of his teachers. Dazza’s story is over 50 years old vbut his struggle is still alive today. ‘

There will also be readings by Marion Carmichael from her award winning, Grass Green Stockings collection of poetry. Marion’s poetry muses on life experiences, people and the Isle of Wight’s unique biosphere through all the seasons. Grass Green Stockings won best fiction in the Isle of Wight book awards 2022
