The Kickstart scheme is designed for those aged between 16 and 24 who are currently claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of unemployment.

The Government has launched the ‘Kickstart’ scheme to provide new jobs for young people to build up their skills and experience levels, and be a stepping stone into further employment.  The scheme is run by DWP and your local job centre will be able to talk you through the eligibility criteria.

Ventnor Exchange wanted to make the most of this opportunity to train two young people during six month paid placements. We currently have 2 roles open to apply for. To be eligible your local job centre must refer you to us.

Job Title: Assistant Producer

Responsible to: Co-Artistic Directors, Brave Island Producer 

Terms: 25 hours per week. Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 4pm. Some evening shifts or extended hours may be required during events. This is initially offered as a six month paid placement. 

National Minimum Wage.

Work Address: Ventnor Exchange, 11 Church Street, PO38 1SW

Purpose of Role: The Assistant Producer supports the delivery and planning of Ventnor Exchange’s creative programme and participatory projects which includes events like Ventnor Fringe, live theatre and comedy performances at the Exchange and in other venues across the Island.  

Principle Responsibilities: 

Brave Island
The Assistant Producer will support the Brave Island Coordinator to deliver a wide programme of events and opportunities. Brave Island is Ventnor Exchange’s innovative programme for 14-25 year olds. You will help to design and deliver funding, training and opportunities that help to inspire and support young people interested in the creative industries.

You will lead the development of a new Ideas Panel of young people whose ideas will help to shape the Brave Island project and working with the Artistic Team help to make these suggestions a reality.

Programming
You will work with the Artistic Team to support the programming and delivery of live performances, events and other creative activities. This may include larger scale festivals like Ventnor Fringe as well as outdoor theatre, art installations, music and comedy gigs. Your role will involve learning about contracts, logistics, licencing and managing a safe and successful event.

Although primarily an office based role, you will also be involved in helping to deliver all of our creative programme, assisting on the ground with the smooth running of every event.

Other Duties
Completing ad-hoc research and administration tasks as required by the Artistic Directors including casting, event management and liaising with artists or agents.

Project evaluation – recording participant numbers for sessions/productions; collating feedback forms from practitioners, participants and audiences; issuing and collating forms about participants’ demographics to feed into reports.

Attending external meetings and events as a representative of Ventnor Exchange.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

 

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about live events and a broad range of artforms. Somebody who wants to work with us to improve and diversify the cultural experiences and opportunities that exist on the Isle of Wight.

No prior experience in an arts organisation is necessary, just a willingness and openness to learn. You might be considering a career as an arts facilitator, event producer, arts administrator, venue manager, artist or teacher.

You must be able to communicate confidently and professionally through written communication, over the phone and in person and able to represent the values of the organisation at all times.

You must have good time management skills and be able to keep track of different projects and deadlines which will often be running at the same time.

We are a small, supportive team and we are looking for a naturally collaborative individual who will fit into this setting with ease, humour and confidence.

You will have an ability to take initiative and be flexible with, and responsive to, an ever-changing work
environment.
