We’re excited to announce our first talk for Soundcheck: A Music Industry Crash CourseHow Important is PR? We sit down with the guys from Wall of Sound PR and discuss everything you need to know about the role of press in the modern music industry. We discuss what makes a great PR campaign and how integral it can be for an artist’s success.

Our guest speakers for this talk are:

Jamie Otsa – Director and Head of Online and Print Publicity at Wall of Sound PR

Jamie is the director of Wall of Sound PR and head of online and print publicity for the roster. Following a short-lived career as a professional musician, he began promoting rock shows independently in Liverpool before moving into event management with Mama Group and various festivals. Previous connections led him to a role in artist management and A&R, eventually launching Wall of Sound PR in 2012.

He is also a freelance music writer and critic, and has contributed to The Metro, Pop Matters, Drowned In Sound, The Skinny, The 405 and many more publications over the years.

Chris Coleshaw – Publicist and Head of Digital Marketing at Wall of Sound PR

Chris specialises in digital marketing, social media strategy, and brand partnerships, and also assists in covering online and print PR for our unsigned and developing artists. Based in the East Midlands, Chris got his start as a hired pen for some of our favourite specialist music sites including Shout4Music, Punktastic & Bring The Noise.

After studying music at the University of Middlesex, Chris returned home to work in a digital marketing role at a commercial PR agency and moonlight as a freelance publicist for various punk bands and record labels, as well as playing bass in touring indie punk outfit Bad Ideas. Chris teamed up with Wall of Sound in January 2017 and launched our new digital marketing services in 2019.

This talk will be pre-recorded and made available to watch on the Ventnor Exchange website on Saturday 27th March.
